Genital Herpes Zoster

Facts About Herpes

By Tanya Brooks on March 21, 2012

Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by a virus called Herpes Simplex (HSV), which is normally caused by Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2) or less common by Herpes Simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) which is the one that causes cold sores.

Herpes can be transmitted and can be unnoticeable for a long time, reason why it can be transmitted without the infected person knowing it, since the only way to detect HSV is when the outbreaks appear. Outbreaks tend to be experienced only once, and as soon as is treated the medication can effectively reduce the chances of having another outbreak or will reduce the symptoms due to the fact that Herpes cannot be cured.

The symptoms, commonly felt during an outbreak, are itchiness in the infected area, headaches, fever, and pain. Additionally, bumps and blister will appear and eventually will result in open sores that can last for up to three weeks. After the first outbreak, usually the virus will stay in your body silently, but the virus can reactivate later. This is when the outbreak become stronger and the sores may last for more weeks than when the first outbreak was experienced. How does it reactivate? Well, simple things such as stress, a cold, an infection, any hormonal change, menstrual periods and even before a big event.

Usually, this is treated with some medicine, or ointments that relief pain, and other symptoms, the treatment varies from person to person, some people only take the medication during or a few day before the outbreak, and will take it for up to 5 days, on the other hand, those who tend to have more outbreaks than usual or the severity of the symptoms is big, they will mostly be suggested to take the medication on a daily basis to try to control the outbreaks frequency and it has been said and proven that those who take medication on a daily basis have less chances of infecting someone else.

Having herpes, like all the other diseases is not the best thing to live with but since this an STD those who get infected initially will feel hopeless and this can seriously affect their relationships, and social life because of the fact that they will have to deal with it an entire life, limit their sexual partners, always use protection, and live with the fact that this was given probably by the beloved one and for women they will have to give birth by a C section in order to prevent the baby from getting infected when having contact with the infected area.

Though this may be an exhausting condition to live with, but it is only a matter of time so this can be comprehended and handled with familiarity.
